 Reflections

I go to this school in Brooklyn. There is an upper school extra- curricular art- and- writing magazine called Reflections. I have the 2005 issue (it only comes out once a year), and I just wanted to share one thing (so far, one) that I really like. It's by an eight grade girl (I'm not going to mention the name without permission).

8 Ways to Ponder Hamantashen

1
If the dough is the shape of
a scalene triangle
with the short side 3 inches
and the other side 4 inches
and the raspberry filling is
in the shape of
an equilateral triangle
with each side a half an inch
what is the ration of the
dough to the filling?
and do you have to be
Jewish to solve it?

2
How do you say Hamantash
in Spanish?
el pastel? La torta?
Riquisimo?

3
I have eaten
the hamantashen
that were lying on
the counter
and which
you were probably
saving for Purim.

Forgive me
they were delectable
so crunchy
and so sweet.

4
The forces of the
hamantashen
lying on the counter
are
pull
push
and w= mg
and if it weighs 5 grams on
earth
how much does it weigh on
Jupiter?

5
If Haman had a 4 cornered
hat
would hamantashen be
square?

6
If Picasso painted
hamantashen
would they still be triangles?

7
dance
of the sugar
plum
haman
tash
en.

8
All of me
why not eat all of me
can't you see
I'm not good without you
take my jam
I want to lose it
take my dough
I'll never use it
you took a nosh
of what once was
my tash
so why not eat all of me

Sorry, I'm getting carried away. Don't mind

 Different Things

Yesterday, I found these two great poems online.

(Untitled)
by Sappho

It's no use

Mother dear, I
can't finish my
weaving
You may
blame Aphrodite

soft as she is

she has almost
killed me with
the love for that boy

Isn't it so awesome? The weirdest thing is, though, how it's not written one line after the other- with spaces in between. It's also what makes it cool .

And here is the second poem.

Happenstance
by Rita Dove

When you appeared it was as if
magnets cleared the air.
I have never seen that smile before
or your hair, flying silver. Someone
waving goodbye, she was silver, too.
Of course you didn't see me.
I called softly so you could choose
not to answer- then called again.
You turned in the light, your eyes
seeking your name.

Personally, I like the first one better, it's so straight forward.

Love ya all,
thanks for being so patient all of you,
Dellie A.

 Welcome me!!

This is my first post. Obviously, if you're reading it, you would know that
I have saved the writing I was going to post here on a floppy disk, but now it "has caused a serious error in opening the document" on the computer, so oh well, next time.
I would also like to know what kind of things people post on their blogs. I have never done this before, so please leave a comment if you can. Thnx!
